CANADIAN FIREARMS SAFETY COURSE (PAL) DESCRIPTION:

The training provided in the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) prepares students with beginner-level knowledge on the responsibilities of possessing and using non-restricted firearms. The course focuses on the safe use, handling, and legal requirements for the possession, transportation and storage of firearms and ammunition.

If you are interested in firearms safety, acquiring a firearm, or work which involves the use of firearms (movies and acting, outdoor careers, law enforcement), this is an excellent foundational course. Successful completion of this course is also the legal requirement to apply for a federal firearms Possession and Acquisition license (PAL).

COURSE INCLUDES:

Instruction, testing, course documentation for submission to the RCMP, frameable course certificate. Coffee and water will be supplied free of charge. Students must bring own lunch and snacks.

COURSE MANUAL:

You are required to have the CFSC official manual with you when taking this course. Options:

PRIMARY LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Using lectures, demonstrations, and supervised physical skills performance with deactivated firearms and inert ammunition, the candidate will learn:

· Basic firearms safety practices including ACTS and PROVE
· Ammunition identification, types and storage
· Operating different types of firearm actions
· Safe handling and carrying of firearms and ammunition
· Responsibilities of the firearms owner/user
· Safe storage, display, and transportation of firearms
· Review of Canadian firearms laws and regulations

PREREQUISITES:

There is no prerequisite training required to attend this course. Pre-reading of the required manual will enhance your course experience and is highly recommended.

PROHIBITIONS:

If you are subject to any legal firearms or weapon prohibitions, you are not permitted to register for this course. Do not bring live firearms or ammunition to this class.

COURSE COST:

The cost of the CFSC course & tests (per person) is $175.00 plus GST

KDFGC professional training facilities include free parking, separate and accessible washrooms, and a large climate-controlled classroom.

Trapshooting was originally developed by bird hunters looking to improve their capacity on the hunt, but the activity was fast to catch on with other interested shotgun enthusiasts.

The clay targets are launched from a “house”, via a clay target thrower, which launches a moving clay target at various distances and angles away from the shooter, depending on the shooters position.

The shooter will shoot at the target after calling “pull!” Regardless if the shooter shatters the target or merely clips a small corner, the target will be considered a “dead” bird. Shooters have the responsibility to keep their own score.

This makes trapshooting different from other forms of clay shooting practices. The gun of choice in trapshooting is usually a 12-gauge shotgun. But, shooters have expanded their skills to use a variety of hunting guns in the practice.

Trapshooting is an attractive sport for men and women alike. Age differences are not important as old and young alike can participate in this exciting event. Of course, a certain amount of strength and stamina are needed to shoot well for any extended amount of time. There are even mental benefits to the practice.

Participants will improve hand-eye coordination, self discipline and mental focus. It is very important that all participants understand fire-arm safety procedures and have a healthy respect for firearms.

When shooting trap, each shooter gets 5 shots from 5 different stations. Each shooter takes 1 shot at a time. When the last shooter completes his 5^th (final) shot at a station, the shooters move to the next station. In total, a shooter will shoot 25 shots (a box of shells) each round.

There is always a Range Officer on duty to ensure safety. Novice shooters will be get individual supervision from a certified Range Officer when they first start to ensure they understand the process, the safety protocols as well as some helpful instruction to increase their success rate at breaking targets.

New Member Orientation Course (NMOC)

What is NMOC?

1. The New Member Orientation Course is an information session designed to provide a detailed overview of Kelowna and District Fish and Game Club (KDFGC).

2. The New Member Orientation Course is available to anyone interested in becoming a member of KDFGC.

3. The New Member Orientation Course must be completed, prior to the purchase of a KDFGC membership.

4. The New Member Orientation Course must be completed prior to participating in any KDFGC firearm or archery activities.

Is there a fee to participate in the NMOC?

1. No, there is no participation or enrollment fee.

2. The New Member Orientation Course is delivered by trained KDFGC Volunteers.

Course Registration:

1. NMOC is delivered on alternate Saturdays. Visit our website at kdfgc.org for course dates.

2. Course Time:10 am – 11:30 am (time is approximate depending on class size)

We're looking to form a work party to help clean out the indoor range backstop before the inspection takes place.

We'll start on Saturday at 1:45 PM.

Things that would be helpful to bring:

-Gloves

-Flat spades/shovels (no point)

Things we'll provide:

-Disposable coveralls

Handgun 1500 (PPC) (12 Apr 2026)

The KDFGC 1500 Discipline (Handgun / Holster – Target Shooting Sport) holds its practices twice weekly on the Outdoor 1500 Range (also known as the UIT Range). Usually on Wednesday & Sunday, but occasionally subject to change. Please check with the Group Leader noted below.

The 4 th Sunday of each month we hold a 1500 Sanctioned Tournament, so practice is pre-empted on these Sundays.

A brief description on 1500 PPC shooting can be found on the KDFGC Website - under the “Clubs” Tab – scroll down to KDFGC 1500 (PPC). KDFGC members are welcome to come out at any time to watch our practice sessions (or Tournaments) to get a better understanding of the sport.

1500 practice sessions are conducted using its formal 1500 competition calibres (the most common being .38 Spl & 9 mm). Members can also participate in practices using .22 cal. Other than the revolver or semi-auto pistol, one requires an appropriate holster, belt, magazines or speed loaders and their belt pouches. On a practice session we normally fire around 100 – 120 rounds of ammunition.

To participate in the organized practice sessions club members must have completed the KDFGC Handgun Level 1 and 2 Courses, or equivalent, or had other professional holster training (Law Enforcement, Military, Etc) – along with an evaluation by the Discipline Range Officers.

The only cost to participate is for the targets used (supplied by our Discipline). To pay for the targets, you can use a 1500 target punch card, available in the office for $20.00 (for 10 punches) or via the KDFGC Online Store. You can also pay by cash, a $3.00 fee (exact change please).

DESCRIPTIONS

Precision Pistol is one hand shooting at 20 yards indoors. It is an Olympic, International and NRA one hand precision style of shooting.

We shoot mostly .177 air pistol and .22 caliber pistols and some target load centerfire calibers.

We shoot on official competition targets but we have competitive, semi-competitive and recreational shooters.

New Members must have done the KDFGC New Member Orientation and the Handgun Safety Qualification Course.

Participation is by invitation; both new members and existing members must have the proper calibers and go through precision pistol orientation.

Indoor Range fee for Adults of $7 per session or $60 for 10 times punch card applies.

Official Targets must be purchased.

Linda Price, Canada’s National Recurve and Para Archery Coach, will be visiting Kelowna to deliver a two-day clinic for barebow and recurve archers. This clinic will focus on breaking down the shot process, evaluating your training and competition goals, and providing personalized feedback to help you become the best archer you can be.

Please note this course is restricted to adults (18+).

PRIMARY LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Using lectures, demonstrations, and supervised physical skills performance with deactivated restricted firearms and inert ammunition, the candidate will learn:

· Basic firearms safety practices including ACTS and PROVE
· Ammunition identification, types, and storage
· Operating different types handgun actions (revolver and semi-automatic)
· Safe handling, loading and unloading of restricted firearms
· Responsibilities of the restricted firearms owner/user
· Safe storage, display, and transportation of restricted firearms
· Review of Canadian firearms laws and regulations

PREREQUISITES:

You must have attended and passed the (non-restricted) CFSC course prior to attending this course. You may register for both courses at the same time, but they must be completed in order.

Pre-reading of the required manual will enhance your course experience and is highly recommended.

PROHIBITIONS:

If you are subject to any legal firearms or weapon prohibitions, you are not permitted to register for this course. Do not bring live firearms or ammunition to this class.

The cost of the CFSC course & tests (per person) is $150.00 plus GST

RANGE LOCATION:

4041 Casorso Rd., Kelowna, B.C.

DIRECTION:

Specific directions on getting to the KDFGC 1500 Range [ Bay 1 ] including access to the property through the KDFGC electronic entry gate will be supplied by e-mail to the non-KDFGC guest shooters after having pre-registered for any of the Tournament dates.

ELIGIBILITY:

These Tournaments are open to KDFGC 1500 trained / qualified shooters, as well as guest PPC shooters with similar experience. All competitors must be current 2026 members of the Canadian Police Combat Association. (C.P.C.A. Memberships will not be available for purchase at the Range on Tournament Day) Please purchase direct from C.P.C.A. well in advance of the Tournament. All competitors must produce a valid CPCA Membership Card at the Match Sign-In / Registration Desk - OR - provide evidence of having recently applied & paid for same.

WAIVER:

The Kelowna & District Fish & Game Club requires all guests to sign a Liability Waiver prior to competing. A copy of same will be supplied to anyone requesting same prior to registering or after if that is their wish. OR – it can be reviewed & signed during match day Sign In.

PURPOSE / MATCHES:

Each Tournament will offer a number of 1500’s, be that the PPC 1500 ( Revolver, Revolver Optical, Semi-Auto Pistol, Semi-Auto Optical ) or the Duty Pistol 1500 (Duty Pistol & Duty Pistol Optical ). Competitors can select two 1500’s per Tournament Day. Additional matches may be added, which could range from Distinguished Revolver or Semi-Auto, Snub Nose, Etc. These extra matches are fun / practice matches only, and while they will follow the CPCA’s Rules & Courses of Fire, they are not CPCA “approved” and not eligible for any CPCA award programs or for classification purposes. These add on matches will be at the discretion of the Match Director – with input from the shooters & range time availability.

MATCH REGISTRATION:

Pre-Registration Only - in advance by online application via the KDFGC Website – Events Calendar (date tab). Application & Payment function are found there. The online registration portal will become live approx. two weeks prior to each Tournament. Registration Cut-Off Deadline is the Wednesday prior to each Tournament at 8:00 pm. Register Early as we have a maximum number of shooters that can be accommodated due to Club restrictions placed on the size of our Tournaments.

Complete & Pay.

DIFFICULTIES WITH THE REGISTRATION SYSTEM:

ENTRY FEES:

One match fee of $25.00 will be inclusive of all costs. That includes CPCA Match Fee, KDFGC Admin Range User Fee, and targets for all matches shot.

MATCH TYPE:

This is an unsquaded individual match. Competitors will be assigned a relay and target position by the Match Registrar. Prior e-mail communication with the Match Registrar may be required to capture the competitors wishes concerning the second 1500 Match, if there is an intention to fire same. Our online system may, or may not, be able to capture that info. Please Register Early !!!!

RELAYS:

All PPC 1500’s will be fired first, then the Duty Pistol 1500 if there is interest. Following same, the unofficial fun matches. All shooting needs to be completed – by 5:00 p.m. There will be a need to quickly move between relays dependant on the number of shooters & matches to be fired.

LUNCH:

There will be no time available to leave the range for lunch. We will have a short break (cease fire) around noon for all to take a lunch break. Shooters need to bring a lunch, snacks, and most definitely refreshments to stay hydrated. No vending machines are on site.

WEATHER:

All kinds of weather is to be expected. June – Sept. matches will more than likely be hot, with afternoon temperatures potentially being in the mid – to – high 30 degrees Celsius. Bring appropriate clothing, hats, etc. [ and refreshments ].

TOILET:

A uni-sex porta-potty is available on the range.

RANGE:

The competition will take place on the KDFGC Bay # 1 - 1500 P.P.C. RANGE. The range is a North facing ( 9 position ) 50 Yd. range, with Overhead Baffles (the baffles do not interfere with the shooting positions). The targets are stationary with the shooter moving to the required distances from the targets. All firing lines are open to the weather, come prepared. A spacious equipment preparation area is available at the rear of the range. It is covered & is usually many degrees cooler than out on the firing line. Adjacent to the prep. area is our Safe Area – which must be used for unboxing / uncasing of all firearms. Likewise re-boxing of firearms at the end of matches. No Ammo allowed in Safe Area.

RULES:

LOCAL RULE:

After each Cease Fire command, the competitor shall present their firearm to the Line Officer for inspection. A revolver shall be presented with the cylinder open, a semi-auto pistol with the slide locked to the rear, magazine removed and held in the other hand. Only on Command of the Line Officer shall the competitor empty & close the revolver cylinder, or release the pistol slide – then the firearm may be holstered.

COURSE OF FIRE:

All Courses of Fire are per C.P.C.A. Rules.

ORDER OF FIRE:

Matches 1 thru 5 of all 1500’s will be shot consecutively, with target scoring being done on the line between Matches.

RANGE OPENS:

At 8:15 a.m. on Match Day for Match Sign-In. There is a requirement that all shooters assist with range set up & tear down / clean up at end of the day. Competitors are expected to assist with various match / range duties when called upon.

ENTRIES CLOSE:

On the Wednesday of match week at 8:00 p.m., via the KDFGC Website’s Online System.

ENTRY LIMIT:

15 Competitors

FIRING STARTS:

9:00 a.m. on the Tournament Date.

CLASSIFICATIONS:

CPCA Classifications will be used. Those without a current Classification will shoot as an Unclassified Competitor and in the Grand Master Class for the duration of the Tournament. At the conclusion of the Tournament, for those shooting as Unclassified, the Match Referee (when requested) will issue a Temporary Classification Card based on score(s) shot.

TARGETS:

WA 1500 Full Size Targets, Centres & Patches will be used with replacement at the discretion of the Match Director. All 1500 Matches are shot on 6 Targets, which could include Centres.

SCORING:

Competitors will score the targets of the shooter on their right, the shooter on the far right end will score the target of the shooter on the far left end. The scoring will be done on the Line after each Match. Scoring will be in accordance with C.P.C.A. rules. A competitor may use a scoring overlay or magnifier for scoring a target. A scoring plug may not be used by a competitor.

MATCH REFEREE:

Once a competitor has initiated a scoring challenge, the Official Match Referee, may at their discretion use a scoring plug to determine the shot value of a challenged round.

CHALLENGE FEE:

A challenge fee of $ 2.00 per round will be charged to a competitor when initiating a challenge. The challenge procedure will follow the method outlined in the CPCA Rules.

PRIZES & AWARDS:

There are no prizes or awards given out at this event.

RESULTS:

Match results will be forwarded to C.P.C.A. for statistical & classification purposes. They will be posted on the CPCA website. If a competitor is also a current member of the World Assn 1500 PPC, their scores will also be reported and posted in a similar fashion.

Precision Pistol BCTSA (26 Apr 2026)

DESCRIPTIONS

Precision Pistol is one hand shooting at 20 yards indoors. It is an Olympic, International and NRA one hand precision style of shooting.

We shoot mostly .177 air pistol and .22 caliber pistols and some target load centerfire calibers.

We shoot on official competition targets but we have competitive, semi-competitive and recreational shooters.

New Members must have done the KDFGC New Member Orientation and the Handgun Safety Qualification Course.

Participation is by invitation; both new members and existing members must have the proper calibers and go through precision pistol orientation.

Indoor Range fee for Adults of $7 per session or $60 for 10 times punch card applies.

Official Targets must be purchased.

New Member Orientation Course (NMOC)

What is NMOC?

1. The New Member Orientation Course is an information session designed to provide a detailed overview of Kelowna and District Fish and Game Club (KDFGC).

2. The New Member Orientation Course is available to anyone interested in becoming a member of KDFGC.

3. The New Member Orientation Course must be completed, prior to the purchase of a KDFGC membership.

4. The New Member Orientation Course must be completed prior to participating in any KDFGC firearm or archery activities.

Is there a fee to participate in the NMOC?

1. No, there is no participation or enrollment fee.

2. The New Member Orientation Course is delivered by trained KDFGC Volunteers.

Course Registration:

1. NMOC is delivered on alternate Saturdays. Visit our website at kdfgc.org for course dates.

2. Course Time:10 am – 11:30 am (time is approximate depending on class size)

3. Register for NMOC online via our website at kdfgc.org (limited spots available)

Course content:

Introduction to Kelowna and District Fish and Game Club.
Membership fee structure: adult, youth, family and guests.
Club structure: access and security.
Membership: safety responsibilities and expectations.
Introduction to the various firearm, and archery, related venues and activities, available to all club members and guests.

What else do I need to know about NMOC?

1. The course begins at 10 am. Please be at our front gate no later than 9:45 am.

2. Your NMOC Instructor, will meet you and take you through the course.

3. A portion of the course content includes a brief tour of the grounds:

- Ear and eye protection is mandatory during the “tour portion” of the course.

- Dress for the weather.

- The tour involves driving and “some” walking.

- We can easily accommodate anyone who may have mobility issues.

4. A positive attitude is always appreciated.

PRIMARY LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

PREREQUISITES:

There is no prerequisite training required to attend this course. Pre-reading of the required manual will enhance your course experience and is highly recommended.

PROHIBITIONS:

If you are subject to any legal firearms or weapon prohibitions, you are not permitted to register for this course. Do not bring live firearms or ammunition to this class.

The cost of the CFSC course & tests (per person) is $175.00 plus GST
